It is really hard to achieve something we don’t really believe we can. If we lack the courage and confidence to do the things we want, we will most likely fail or worse, we won’t even start doing those things.
That is why many people credit their success to their courage and confidence. Self-confidence is the ability to believe in one’s own skills and goals. When we believe in ourselves we are much more likely to take action towards our goals, develop our skills and seize the moment.
Man often becomes what he believes himself to be. If I keep on saying to myself that I cannot do a certain thing, it is possible that I may end by really becoming incapable of doing it. On the contrary, if I have the belief that I can do it, I shall surely acquire the capacity to do it even if I may not have it at the beginning.Mahatma Gandhi
The good news is that even if you are very a shy and awkward person, you can still build up confidence because it is something that everyone train and improve.
There are some key principles that you need to practice. Master these principles and they will carry to every aspect of your life!
Here are the confidence principles you need to practice every day.
1 – Body Language
The first thing you need to do to be confident, is to look like a confident and capable person.
For that, you should devote some time every day to personal hygiene and make sure you present yourself well. Clothing is important, but that does not mean you need to wear a suit every day. Clothing should be appropriate to the occasion, and you should feel comfortable.
Now that you are all cleaned and dressed up, perfect your posture. Keep your shoulders back, your spine straight and your chin up. This way you’ll feel much more confident and people around you will feel the same and treat you as such.
All that’s left is to smile, make eye contact (not too much) and have an approachable body language.
2 – Positivity
As Tony Robbins puts it, “Where focus goes, energy flows”. So stop thinking on how things might go wrong and start focusing on how to make them work.
Recognize your talents, remember past compliments from other people and your past achievements. This is important for you to realize there is potential within you and you can keep improving. Also, visualize a successful version of yourself. Visualizing your goal will give you more confidence.
Not everything goes well the first time we try, just because we failed, it doesn’t mean we can’t make it, it only means that now we are one step closer, and that’s a good thing. Everyone has struggled with something, that’s life.
3 – Have a Growth Mindset
Being confident means that even if you fail, you will pick your self back, learn from your mistakes and try again.
Don’t worry if you don’t have confidence in “auto-pilot” mode. It’s normal that you will feel hesitant at times, and that is why you must practice it.
Confidence is a process, not an achievement.
4 – Get it done.
After being aware of the previous points it’s time to actually do things. Confidence is built on accomplishments. Even small goals count so break down your tasks and try to figure out what small thing can you do to get closer to your goal.
What do you need to accomplish today? What about tomorrow? And next month?
This is how you conquer those big goals of yours. Rome wasn’t built in one day, so it’s important to monitor your progress and make adjustments along the way.
I have an interesting post on consistency that you could say it is related to confidence. If you do things consistently you will build up your confidence as your goals and results show

Now you have a pretty good idea on what you should do to start building up your confidence and aim to the top!
Just one more thing.
All areas of your life have the potential to build up or destroy your confidence. Make sure you try to live a healthy life style, do the right thing for you and others and don’t let what anyone put you down. You are the sole owner of your future.
